With great sadness, Florida Linen Services announced the passing of Richard Luneburg, 86. He passed peacefully on April 10 in Miami, Florida.
In 1973, Luneburg began his career in the linen industry with his brother Don processing personal clothing for long-term care facilities in the New York area. They later moved into the acute care business as FDR serving the Northeast. Eventually they opened their first southern plant in Pompano Beach Florida. The company grew with facilities serving customers throughout the eastern seaboard and was was eventually sold to Tartan Textiles, which was later acquired by National Linen.
Several years later, Luneburg learned that the Pompano plant was to be closed so he came out of retirement and purchased the facility in 2003. This ensured the staff he initially hired would retain their jobs. Over the past twenty years, together with his sons, Christian, Kyle and Brent and daughter Ashley they made further acquisitions resulting in four plants and two depots in Florida and South Georgia.
Luneburg gained the trust and respect of everyone who knew him and would always help those in need. He was a devoted husband and father and loved by his staff who will miss him dearly.
Luneburg was preceded in death by his son Richard K. Luneburg and is survived by wife Karen and children Ashley Wasulko, Donna Luneburg, Kelsey Davis, Tammy Luneburg, Christian Luneburg, Brent Luneburg, and Kyle Luneburg; his brother Don Luneburg and seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
