In Memoriam – Leon Galey


Industry veteran Leon Galey passed away quietly at his home on October 18 at the age of ninety-six.

Galey was engaged in the laundry industry for over 41 years beginning as an area salesperson in the New England area. Later he was an executive at Washex Machinery, Long Island NY, and moved with them to Wichita Falls, TX in 1973.

He also worked at Baring Industries, Miami; was a VP at Jensen Corporation, Ft. Lauderdale; and at Southern Machinery, Miami. Over his years within the industry, he helped a multitude of customers, and made many close friends and associates.

Born in Brooklyn, NY,  he served time the US Army stationed in New York, as well as service time aboard ship in Naha, Japan. He went to college initially in Brooklyn, then later at University of Pennsylvania in The Wharton School of Business, graduating in 1953. From there he went to work in the gas and oil industry in Ohio. Later he returned to New England to begin his laundry career with Consolidated Sales, a laundry and dry cleaning supply company.

Leon is survived by his spouse Barbara; daughters Susan (Paul Zyserman) and Pam (Rick Dimalo); and grandchildren Mitch and Paige (Zyserman).
